Mavin Records’ renowned DJ, Nonso Temisan Ajufo, popularly known as DJ Big N, has shared his thoughts on why Nigerian artists struggled at the recent Grammy Awards and offered advice on how they can improve their chances in the future.

At the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, Nigerian stars including Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Omah Lay, and Wizkid were all nominated in the Best African Music Performance category. However, the award ultimately went to South African singer Tyla, leaving many fans disappointed.

Reacting to the results on his X page, DJ Big N pointed out that Nigerian musicians’ limited engagement in the American music scene may have contributed to the outcome.

He emphasized the importance of attending music seminars, networking events, and industry gatherings in the United States, suggesting that involvement beyond just the awards night can make a significant difference.

DJ Big N specifically highlighted the approach of multiple Grammy-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo, who actively participates in American music events and the Grammy decision-making process.

He encouraged Nigerian artists to follow this example to increase their visibility and influence in the global music industry.

He wrote, “It stings deeply that so many talented Nigerians were nominated but didn’t bring the Grammy home this time. But here’s the truth, legends like @angeliquekidjo and @YoussouNdourSN have shown us the power of being involved beyond just the award night.”

By engaging more with international music events and the Grammy ecosystem, Nigerian artists can not only expand their global reach but also improve their chances of taking home the coveted award in future editions.
