Nigerian singer Korede Bello, during a recent talk show appearance, discussed how the rise of new artists has contributed to a decline in the overall quality of music in the industry.
Speaking on Hip TV’s program *Trending*, hosted by reality star Kim Oprah, Bello explained that while young artists are achieving fame quickly, their lack of life experience often results in superficial music that prioritizes materialism over substance. He noted that many of these artists are still in the process of understanding life, and as a result, their songs tend to focus on living lavish lifestyles rather than reflecting deeper, more meaningful themes.
Bello also highlighted the difference between today’s young artists and more seasoned musicians like African China, Timaya, and Fela, whose music is rooted in lived experiences and speaks to the realities of life. He stressed, however, that these younger musicians shouldn’t be blamed, as they can only create from their own limited perspectives. Instead, he encouraged a more understanding approach, recognizing that their music is a reflection of where they are in life.
“Korede Bello expressed that when young artists begin to gain fame, the overall quality of music tends to decline due to their lack of life experiences. He explained that many of them are still learning how to navigate life and often focus on themes like wealth and luxury in their music because that’s what they aspire to.
In contrast, artists like African China, Timaya, and Fela draw from rich personal experiences, making their music a reflection of deeper realities. Bello emphasized that it’s important not to blame these young musicians, as they can only create based on what they’ve personally encountered.”
