Popular Nigerian social media commentator, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has shared his thoughts following the outcome of the 68th Grammy Awards, where Nigerian artistes failed to win in any of the categories they were nominated for. The prestigious award ceremony was held on Sunday night in the United States.
Top Nigerian music stars including Davido, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Omah Lay, and Wizkid were all nominated across different categories but ultimately left the event without taking home a Grammy. Despite the strong presence of Nigerian talent, the night ended without a win for the country.

Reacting online, VDM described the outcome as disappointing but unsurprising. He pointed out that Nigerian artistes often play a major role in promoting the global relevance of the Grammy Awards through fan engagement and online visibility, yet rarely receive recognition in return. According to him, the influence of Nigerian music is frequently used to boost global conversations around the awards.
In a post that quickly gained attention on social media, VDM confirmed that all Nigerian nominees lost in their respective categories. He added that while none of the artistes would be returning to Lagos with a trophy, their nominations alone were proof of their hard work and growing international impact.
VDM’s comments sparked widespread debate online, with many Nigerians questioning the fairness of the Grammy Awards. Some users agreed with his views, while others defended the awards, urging fans to focus on the global exposure and progress Nigerian music continues to achieve.
Regardless of the results, fans and industry watchers praised the nominated artistes for representing Nigeria on the world stage and for their continued efforts in pushing Afrobeats to a global audience.
