The recent sentencing of Mathias Pogba, the elder brother of football star Paul Pogba, has continued to stir conversations across the globe. Mathias was handed a three-year prison sentence for his involvement in an extortion plot against his younger brother. The incident, which made headlines back in 2022, saw Mathias trying to blackmail Paul for a staggering £11 million. But what has caught many people’s attention is not just the case itself, but the powerful advice given by social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), in reaction to the case.

In 2022, Mathias Pogba was arrested and charged in connection with a criminal scheme aimed at extorting his younger brother, Paul. Mathias allegedly tried to coerce Paul into paying £11 million, claiming it was for protection from threats he said were being made against the family. However, after a legal battle, Mathias was sentenced to three years in prison, with two of those years suspended.

The story has shocked many, especially considering that Paul Pogba is one of the most well-known footballers in the world. The case has raised questions about family dynamics, sibling relationships, and the lengths some people will go to when money is involved.

In a viral video, Verydarkman reacted to the news of Mathias Pogba’s sentence. As always, VDM’s take was direct and thought-provoking. He urged Nigerians, particularly those who are breadwinners of their families, to learn from this case and be careful about how they handle their relationships with family members.

VDM emphasized that no one should feel entitled to another person’s wealth, no matter the familial bond. He explained that it’s important for breadwinners to avoid situations where relatives feel that they are owed money, and more importantly, to avoid any scenario that could lead to betrayal or conflict.

One of the most striking pieces of advice VDM gave was to encourage Nigerians who are supporting their families to take proactive steps in setting up their loved ones for success. He pointed out that instead of simply providing financial aid, breadwinners should focus on creating opportunities for their family members to stand on their own feet. This could mean helping them build skills, invest in businesses, or pursue education—anything that ensures they won’t be left feeling dependent and resentful.

What VDM is suggesting is simple yet powerful: avoid enabling a sense of entitlement. If people rely too much on someone else’s wealth without developing their own capacity for financial independence, it can eventually lead to resentment or even criminal behavior, as we’ve seen in the case of Mathias Pogba.

VDM’s message hit home for many Nigerians who have experienced similar family dynamics. Whether it’s the pressure to support extended families or the resentment that can come from one family member’s success, his words of caution have been widely appreciated.

In the end, VDM’s advice extends beyond just the specifics of the Pogba family drama. It’s about setting the right boundaries, being mindful of entitlement, and ensuring that our loved ones are empowered, not just financially supported. The story of Mathias Pogba’s blackmail attempt is a tragic reminder of the dangers of family dynamics gone wrong—and VDM’s reflections on the matter offer valuable lessons to anyone with responsibilities to family members.

So, whether you’re supporting a family member or relying on someone else, remember: setting up your loved ones for success in the right way is key to avoiding problems in the future.
