A woman has reportedly passed away from kidney failure after her husband allegedly misappropriated funds meant for her treatment, instead opting to take her to a church for prayers and “deliverance.”
The case was initially highlighted by a social media user, @TheSerahIbrahim, who had sought donations on X (formerly Twitter) in September to support the woman, named Joyce, who was undergoing treatment for kidney failure. Sadly, a few months later, @TheSerahIbrahim shared the tragic news that Joyce had not survived.
According to @TheSerahIbrahim, Joyce’s husband reportedly transferred the donated funds into his personal account. Instead of continuing her medical treatment, he took her from the hospital to a church, where a pastor claimed she could be healed through prayer. Reportedly, they administered herbal treatments known as agbo instead of the necessary medical care.
In her post, @TheSerahIbrahim expressed her frustration and sorrow, sharing that Joyce had voiced her worsening condition in phone conversations and messages, while her husband and the pastor insisted she was improving. She called for Nigerian authorities to hold pastors accountable in such cases, saying, “Enough is enough.”
