Nigerian music star Rema recently addressed claims that he is involved in satanic practices, a topic that came up during a podcast where he fielded questions from fans.
The accusations stem from some imagery in his music videos, which include elements like masks and mystical symbols. However, Rema firmly defended himself, explaining that much of the misunderstanding arises from ignorance about his rich Benin heritage.
Rema clarified that the symbols and masks featured in his performances are deeply rooted in the traditions of the Benin Kingdom. For instance, the mask seen in one of his shows is a representation of Queen Idia, a revered figure in Benin history.

He emphasized that these cultural elements have been misconstrued as satanic because of their unfamiliarity to many of his fans, particularly those outside of Nigeria. In reality, he said, these symbols celebrate his cultural pride and are part of his mission to promote his heritage on the global stage.
Despite the controversy, Rema remains proud of his Edo roots and continues to showcase his culture through his music and performances. He hopes to educate fans and the wider audience about the beauty of his background while dispelling myths and falsehoods surrounding his artistic choices.
