In response to the uproar following his controversial tweet, Nigerian artist Divine Ikubor, widely known as Rema, has hit back at critics who argue that he doesn’t measure up to Afrobeats giants Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.

Rema addressed the backlash stemming from his provocative tweet, “No more Big 3, there’s now a Big 4,” in his latest song “Hehehe,” released by Mavin Global Holdings on Monday morning.

Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy are globally acknowledged as the leading Nigerian Afrobeats artists, collectively dubbed the “Big 3.” However, Rema insists he now stands among these megastars, forming a “Big 4.”

In the song, he asserts: “No more Big 3, there’s now a Big 4. People go para but what for? Dem go say I don’t deserve it but that is an insult.”

In related news, Burna Boy has achieved yet another milestone in the Nigerian music scene. His new song “Higher” amassed 2.3 million plays on Spotify Nigeria within its first week, breaking the previous record of 2.1 million streams held by “Benin Boys” by Rema and Shallipopi.

This isn’t Burna Boy’s only recent triumph. “Higher” also set a Spotify record for the most first-day streams for a solo song by an African artist. Released on June 27, 2024, “Higher” emphasizes the importance of valuing what truly matters amid success.

Burna Boy filmed the music video for “Higher” in his hometown, Port Harcourt, to give it a distinctive touch. During his stay, he also engaged in “Project PROTECT,” his philanthropic initiative that partners with The R.E.A.C.H. to support Nigerians lacking access to basic services.
