MTN, a Mobile Telecommunications Network, has pledged to unblock all recently blocked SIM cards within the next 24 hours.
MTN Nigeria had disconnected these SIMs in compliance with directives from the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), which required the disconnection of SIMs not linked to National Identification Numbers (NINs) by July 31, 2024.
Subscribers expressed frustration and anger, forming long queues at MTN offices early on Monday, July 29, 2024. Some threatened to use the opportunity to protest against poor governance in the country.
A viral video recently showed an MTN official announcing that all blocked SIMs would be unblocked within the next 24 hours. While this news brought relief to many, some speculated that it was a move by the government to prevent the planned nationwide protest on July 29.
