A youth corps member has taken to social media to express his frustration after residents in his area locked their well due to water shortage fears. As a result, he was unable to bathe and had to miss work at his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).

The corps member revealed that the residents locked their well, believing the water inside was limited. He expressed his surprise at the situation, stating that he had never experienced anything like it before.

“I couldn’t bathe, so I didn’t go to my PPA today. I woke up and everyone locked their konga (well) because they feel like the water inside is limited. Chai. Wetin I never see for Yoruba Land? Me wey get my own river for Bayelsa,” he wrote.

His post sparked reactions from concerned individuals, who shared their thoughts on the matter. Some explained that water scarcity is a common issue in certain areas, especially during the dry season.

@i_am_dexterous said, “Ekiti is on the rocks. Water is a scarce commodity in the dry season. If they didn’t lock it, you still won’t meet water inside. Because people would’ve rushed and finished it. I served in Ondo, so I know. Buy a container to keep water in. You’ll survive.”

@YeyeOba001 wrote, “Seems you lack a good understanding of geography. But since you want to be mischievous, congratulations.”

@BabatundeB97491 commented, “Bayelsa the most poorest state in southern Nigeria Or which bayelsa? nobody force you down here, Borno didn’t lock their border pls do the necessary.”

@deoyesalem wrote, “Be rest assured that it is not in any way targeted at you or anyone else for that matter. There are places in Ibadan and Abeokuta and even on the Mainland in Lagos that experience such scarcity especially between October and February. It’s a natural occurrence.”

@9jabadger said, “This is a common practice 4 houses wit well as their source of water and nt borehole during dry season like this in Lagos and other southwest states. Nobody did this bcoz a certain foreigner from another tribe is in their midst, it’s desperate times calls 4 desperate measures.”

@Christo44244375 wrote,  “Not everywhere in Yorubaland oga.For many places in Yorbuland, water don’t dry up all through the year. I also experienced it when serving in Minna.”

@Moore_Edition commented, “Lol, since early February we don dey lock our gate make neighbors no come use our well cuz people wells don dey dry up. As a Rivers man e dey be me like film. Make next month come make I go back my papa house.”

@OriekuC said, “Even here in Edo, we do it so it is not peculiar to a particular place or region. Na dey season we dey.”
