Veteran Nigerian entertainer and activist Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada, has addressed the long-standing rumours about his sexuality.
Known for his unconventional lifestyle and fearless self-expression, Charly Boy said he has always lived openly and never felt pressured by public opinion or criticism. Speaking during an interview with KAATRUTH, he explained that he has nothing to hide and has never seen any reason to conceal who he truly is.
According to him, people who live in secrecy often do so because of fear — something he says has never influenced his life decisions. He made it clear that if the rumours about him were true, he would have openly admitted it without hesitation.
“If I were gay, I would proudly say it everywhere. I don’t hide who I am. I give my all to whatever I stand for,” he stated.
Charly Boy went on to compare his life to an open marketplace, where everything is on display. He said he considers himself an open book and believes dishonesty comes from a lack of courage to live authentically.
“I can’t lie about my life. People lie because they are afraid to live their truth. I’ve been living my truth for years, so I don’t worry about what anyone thinks,” he added.
For decades, Charly Boy has remained one of Nigeria’s most talked-about public figures. From his bold fashion choices to his outspoken activism and unconventional stage persona, he has consistently stood out in the entertainment industry.
Despite the curiosity that often surrounds his personal life, the veteran performer insists he has always been genuine and sees no reason to change who he is now.
