The suspect, 32-year-old Simbarashe Ashton Machipisa, known locally as Mabhutsu, reportedly committed the heinous act yesterday after being consumed by jealousy and rage.
The tragic event unfolded when Machipisa visited the home of his former partner, Nomsa Sengwe, also 32, who had recently ended their relationship due to his escalating violent behavior. Sengwe, a local hairdresser, had been attempting to distance herself from Machipisa, but his jealousy reportedly spiraled out of control when he discovered she had spent the night with a new partner.
Upon realizing that Sengwe was not at home, Machipisa allegedly directed his anger toward her 2-year-old son, Truth Maphosa. In a horrifying act witnessed by Sengwe’s other five children, aged between four and fifteen, Machipisa is said to have strangled the young boy before brutally throwing him against a wall. The children’s desperate cries alerted neighbors to the emergency.
A brave neighbor intervened, managing to restrain Machipisa with a chain before the police arrived. However, before the authorities could take him into custody, local residents reportedly beat him in response to his actions. Machipisa was eventually detained at St Mary’s Police Station, where he remains in custody.
