Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned in court for allegedly assaulting government officials in Ogun State. The singer, who turned himself in to the police after being declared wanted, faced a five-count charge at the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta.
Portable pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include conspiracy, assault, and restriction, as well as conduct likely to cause harm. His aides, nine in total, were also arraigned for similar charges.
The alleged assault took place at Portable’s bar, Odogwu Bar, where he and his aides allegedly attacked three town planning officers who were performing their duties. The officers, Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero, were reportedly assaulted and restricted by Portable and his team.
After pleading not guilty, Portable’s counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, urged the court to grant him bail. Ayodele assured the court that Portable had learned his lesson and was remorseful for his actions.
Magistrate O L Oke granted Portable ₦2m bail with one surety in the like sum. The case has been adjourned until March 5 for trial.
