Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has issued a public apology to her colleague, Mercy Johnson Okojie, following a highly publicized cyberbullying controversy that recently stirred reactions across social media.
Recall that Angela Okorie was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Centre, Abuja, at her Lagos residence on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, over allegations of cyberbullying and online harassment against Mercy Johnson.
The situation escalated on Wednesday, January 29, when an Abuja court ordered that the actress be remanded at Suleja Correctional Facility.
However, relief came shortly after, as a Federal High Court in Abuja granted her bail on Friday, January 30.
Presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, approved the bail application filed by her counsel, Earnest Nwoye, and set bail conditions at ₦5 million, with one surety required to provide the same amount.
Following her release, Angela Okorie took to social media to share a heartfelt video message, where she directly addressed Mercy Johnson, her children, and her family.
In the emotional clip, the actress admitted her mistakes and expressed deep regret over her actions.
“I am not perfect, and I want to sincerely apologize,” Angela said. “If it’s my words, anything I’ve written, or any time your name came up on social media, I am truly sorry.”
She went further to dismiss negative labels and rumors that had circulated online about Mercy Johnson, stating clearly that her colleague is not what people have portrayed her to be.
According to Angela, her decision to speak out was driven by a desire for peace and maturity, especially as a fellow mother.
“Our children may one day meet and become friends,” she said. “As mothers, we cannot allow issues between us to affect them.”
Angela Okorie also emphasized that she does not support bullying in any form and apologized for anything she may have said or done—whether intentionally or not. She described the apology as a new beginning, reaffirming her respect and affection for Mercy Johnson.
“You are my friend,” she added. “I will no longer listen to gossip about you. I love you, and I pray that God continues to bless you and take you higher.”
The public apology has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many fans applauding the move as a step toward peace and reconciliation within the Nollywood industry.
