“No one came to save me when I was a child. No one told me the truth.” A new mother sues medical practitioners for allegedly misleading her during her transition as a teenager, sharing her struggles.
A woman who transitioned to male as a teenager has shared her regrets and detailed the effects on her body as she welcomes a child after detransitioning.
On June 3, 2024, Prisha Mosley, 26, gave birth to a healthy baby boy via C-section. Until two years ago, she identified as a man.
During her transition, she took testosterone. At 15, she socially transitioned to male; at 17, she started testosterone injections; and at 18, she had her breasts removed. However, the procedures disrupted her hormones, causing significant suffering, leading her to detransition.
When Mosley visited a doctor for a missed period last year, she laughed when asked if she could be pregnant. Although in a relationship, she assumed she was infertile due to her previous treatments.
“I still can’t believe I got pregnant,” she told writer Kirsten Fleming. “And I still can’t believe he’s healthy.”
However, motherhood has come with complications and medical issues.
After receiving what she describes as “gender-affirming care,” she’s now sharing her journey to motherhood. Mosley expressed concern that others might endure similar experiences. “The pain of imagining that someone else could feel or experience what I am experiencing makes the pain of being a public case study numb. It doesn’t compare. No one came and saved me when I was little. No one told me the truth,” she said.
Her body has suffered significantly. She reports an enlarged liver, high insulin levels, and atrophy of her uterus, bladder, and vagina. Hormonal imbalances resulted in her baby being larger than average, and her hips were too narrow for a vaginal delivery.
After living as a man in the trans community for a few years, she realized through therapy that gender was not her issue. She has since detransitioned and is now suing eight medical practitioners, alleging they misled her into undergoing medical procedures and interventions.
