Actress and filmmaker Motilola Akinlami has issued an apology following her criticism of the epic film “House of Ga’a,” directed by Bolanle Austen Peters and available on Netflix.
Motilola had initially shared her review of the movie in a now-deleted post, which led to backlash from fans who felt her comments undermined the filmmaker’s work.
In a recent Instagram update, Motilola clarified that her intention was not to discredit anyone’s efforts but to offer her own observations. She acknowledged the skill and hard work that went into making the film and apologized for any misunderstandings that may have arisen from her earlier remarks.
She praised “House of Ga’a” for its distinct qualities and perspectives, noting that her review reflected her personal viewpoint. Motilola reiterated that diverse opinions exist and apologized once more for any offense caused.
She concluded by affirming that “House of Ga’a” is a commendable film and extended well wishes for a blessed week to her followers.
She wrote:
Apologies are in order as regards a post I did last week. After due reflection, I realised how that post may have been misconstrued to mean I was trying to bring down someone’s hard work.
“That, in fact, isn’t the case. It’s not in my character. I recognise the hard work and skill that went into putting together that beautiful work of Art.
“I merely made an observation that I took down about 2 minutes after I read it again and had a conversation with a couple of people. I see how that may have sounded the way it did.
“Having said that, HOUSE OF GA’A is a great movie that has its own flavours and add-ons, as there are many sides to a coin.
I only saw my own side, and for this, I apologise. Again, I’m sorry if that came across the wrong way.
I honestly didn’t mean for that to happen. Different strokes for different folks. I should have known better.
