Nigerian music star Tems has opened up about one of the most embarrassing moments she faced at the beginning of her career a performance that didn’t go as she had hoped.
Speaking during a recent chat with Big Boy TV, the “Crazy Tings” crooner revealed that she was once booed off stage while performing at her school as an upcoming artist. Instead of applause and encouragement, she was met with loud jeers from the crowd. To make matters worse, some students even threw plastic bottles at her while she was on stage.
Tems recalled how excited and hopeful she had been before the performance. As a young aspiring singer, she expected support from her peers. However, the reaction she received was the complete opposite.
Despite the humiliating experience, the singer said the incident did not break her spirit or discourage her from chasing her dreams. According to her, those early setbacks only strengthened her resolve to keep going.
She admitted that part of the resistance she faced may have been because she chose to stick to her own unique sound rather than follow trends. At the time, many young artists were performing popular covers or trying to imitate mainstream styles. Tems, however, was determined to stay authentic and develop her own musical identity.
Looking back now, the Grammy-winning star expressed gratitude for staying true to herself. She believes that refusing to conform played a key role in shaping the artist she has become today.
From being booed on stage to winning global recognition, Tems’ journey serves as a reminder that early rejection does not define one’s future. Her story highlights the importance of resilience, self-belief, and artistic authenticity in the face of criticism.
