Nigerian music superstar Davido has finally broken his silence over the ongoing custody battle with his ex-partner, Sophia Momodu, sharing his side of the story in a series of emotional posts on social media.
The singer addressed public reactions following reports that he allegedly lost his temper during a recent court hearing.
Davido Says He Asked for Joint Custody, Not Full Custody
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, Davido clarified that he never demanded full custody of his daughter, Imade. According to him, his request was strictly for joint custody.
He stressed that the situation shouldn’t be seen as a win-or-lose battle between him and Sophia. In his words, nobody truly wins in such circumstances — especially not their daughter. He questioned why some people appeared to be celebrating the development, stating that there was nothing to rejoice about.
“Nobody Won, Nobody Lost — But Imade”
The award-winning artist expressed concern about how the public narrative was being shaped. He maintained that the real focus should be on the well-being of their child rather than public opinion or online commentary.
Davido emphasized that regardless of how the case unfolds, his daughter will grow up knowing that he made an effort to be present in her life and fought for his rights as a father.
Why Davido Decided to Drop the Case
In surprising update, Davido revealed that he has chosen to discontinue the court case. He explained that tensions escalated during the hearing, particularly when Sophia’s legal representative allegedly brought up his late son during arguments.
The singer described that moment as deeply hurtful and unnecessary, calling it the “lowest blow.” Davido and his wife previously lost their son in 2022 a tragedy that shook fans across the country and beyond.
According to Davido, mentioning his deceased child during the custody dispute crossed a line he could not ignore.
Davido Calls Out Sophia’s Lawyer
On his Instagram story, the singer went further to criticize Sophia’s lawyer, claiming he had outperformed him during court proceedings. Davido alleged that the lawyer became frustrated and resorted to personal attacks.
He also expressed disappointment over what he described as insensitive behavior, adding that he would not wish the pain he and his wife endured on anyone.
A Painful Chapter for Both Parties
The custody battle between Davido and Sophia Momodu has sparked widespread discussion online, with fans and critics sharing mixed reactions. However, Davido’s latest statement suggests he is ready to move forward and leave the legal drama behind.
He concluded his message with a call for peace, urging everyone to “move on” and spread love.
As the situation continues to unfold, one thing remains clear the singer wants his daughter to know he stood up for her, regardless of public perception.
