Reality TV star and media personality Tope Adenibuyan, popularly known as Teddy A, has spoken candidly about the emotional toll of past allegations that accused him of physically abusing his wife, actress and media figure Bamike “Bambam” Olawunmi-Adenibuyan.
The former Big Brother Naija housemate addressed the issue during a recent interview on the WithChude podcast, where he described the claims as completely false and deeply damaging to his reputation and family.
“We Were Caught Completely Off Guard”
According to Teddy A, the allegations spread rapidly on social media and claimed that he had beaten his wife, including during her pregnancy. He stressed that none of the reports were true and said the situation shocked both him and Bambam.
He recalled that on the day the story surfaced, there was no conflict in their home. Instead, it was a normal, peaceful morning.
“I woke up, went downstairs, and my wife was there watching a movie. She was pregnant and laughing,” he said.
Teddy A explained that he only sensed something was wrong when his phone began buzzing nonstop with notifications.
“I hadn’t posted anything, so I was confused. I kept wondering why my phone was blowing up,” he added.
Emotional Impact on His Wife
As he scrolled through social media and saw the comments and accusations, Teddy A said his wife became visibly distressed.
“She was confused and emotional. She kept asking who could do this to us. Honestly, I didn’t know where it came from,” he said.
He noted that the speed at which the allegations spread left him stunned, as online conversations quickly took on a life of their own.
Silence That Came at a Cost
Teddy A revealed that he reached out to his manager for guidance after the news broke and was advised to remain silent and let the controversy die down. At the time, he agreed with the approach.
However, he admitted that staying silent turned out to be a costly mistake.
“I didn’t understand then how much damage silence could cause. Even now, when my wife and I post pictures or videos, people still ask if I beat her,” he said.
Long-Term Damage to His Image
The reality star described the experience as painful, noting that it permanently changed how some people perceive him.
“It affected me deeply because people started seeing me in a way that wasn’t true,” he explained.
Years after the allegations first surfaced, Teddy A says the stigma still follows him online, despite no evidence ever supporting the claims.
Renewed Conversations on Social Media Accountability
Teddy A’s remarks have reignited discussions around the dangers of unverified allegations, social media misinformation, and the long-term consequences of false narratives.
Neither Teddy A nor Bambam has ever confirmed any incident of domestic abuse. Over the years, the couple has continued to present a united front publicly, sharing moments from their family life and careers.
The interview serves as a reminder of how quickly misinformation can spread online—and how difficult it can be to undo the damage once a narrative takes hold.
