In a shocking event, Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, the husband of popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson and a federal lawmaker representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at his residence in Uromi, Edo State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Friday, September 20, 2024, when armed men disguised as police officers stormed his home.
According to reports, the assailants, suspected to be political thugs, managed to gain access to Okojie’s home, claiming they had an appointment. However, quick intervention by the security personnel attached to Okojie thwarted the assassination attempt.
Two of the attackers fled the scene, leaving behind their driver and an accomplice. These individuals were promptly apprehended and handed over to the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi for interrogation. During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed that they were sent on the mission by leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Esan North-East Local Government Area.
Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza, confirmed that the swift response of the security team prevented the incident from escalating further. The attack is believed to be politically motivated, especially given the rising tensions as the Edo State elections draw near.
