The newly-crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, asserts that her victory was the result of dedication and effort, not sympathy.

It’s important to remember that Adetshina withdrew from a South African beauty pageant in August 2024 due to controversies surrounding allegations of fraud and identity theft involving her mother.

Amid xenophobic hostility and rejection over her nationality, Chidimma accepted an invitation to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria competition, where she eventually emerged victorious.

Addressing criticisms following her win, Adetshina clarified during an interview with Arise News on Friday that her success was earned through hard work.

“Some people think it was a sympathy win. I disagree. I believe I worked extremely hard, especially after the experience in South Africa. We spent around 10 weeks in camp, going through the entire process.

“It may have been slightly different from what others experienced, but looking at the journey we all undertook, I believe I shared a similar experience with the other contestants,” she explained.

The journey might have been slightly different compared to everyone else, but looking back, I feel I had the same experience as the other ladies.
